Orthodontics/ Orthodontist

A beautifully straight smile is not only aesthetically pleasing but also a sign of good oral health. However, not everyone is born with perfectly aligned teeth. Issues such as misalignment, bite problems, or gaps between teeth are common concerns.

If you are looking to improve your smile and overall dental health, consulting an experienced orthodontist is the best step toward achieving a straighter, healthier smile.

Orthodontist What is an Orthodontist?

An orthodontist is a dental specialist trained to diagnose and treat irregularities with your teeth and jaws. When you see our Brooklyn orthodontist, they can identify problems that may develop in the future and correct those that already exist.

Straightening Smiles with Precision and Care

An orthodontist is a dental specialist with advanced training in diagnosing, preventing, and treating misalignments of the teeth and jaws. Unlike general dentists, orthodontists focus exclusively on correcting bite issues, crooked teeth, and jaw irregularities to enhance both function and aesthetics.

Why See an Orthodontist?

If you experience any of the following dental concerns, an orthodontist can help:

  • Crowded Teeth: Teeth that overlap due to lack of space in the jaw, making cleaning difficult and increasing the risk of decay and gum disease.
  • Spaces Between Teeth: Gaps that can occur naturally or from missing teeth, affecting appearance and bite function.
  • Overbite: When the upper front teeth excessively overlap the lower teeth, potentially leading to jaw discomfort and tooth wear.
  • Underbite: When the lower teeth extend beyond the upper teeth, which can cause difficulty with chewing and speaking.
  • Crossbite: A misalignment where upper teeth sit inside lower teeth, which may lead to uneven wear, gum recession, and jaw asymmetry.
  • Open Bite: When the upper and lower front teeth do not meet when the mouth is closed, making it hard to bite into foods and affecting speech.
  • Misaligned Jaw: Irregular jaw positioning that can lead to TMJ pain, headaches, and difficulty chewing.
  • Crooked or Rotated Teeth: Teeth that are not properly aligned, which can impact aesthetics and make hygiene more challenging.

Orthodontist and a General Dentist What Is the Difference between an Orthodontist and
a General Dentist?

While some general dentists offer limited orthodontic services, they often refer patients to a specialist for more advanced care. Orthodontists undergo extensive additional training to specialize in diagnosing, preventing, and correcting misaligned teeth and jaw structures.

To become an orthodontist, a dentist must first complete dental school and earn a general dentistry degree. They then undergo several years of specialized orthodontic residency training before becoming certified to practice in their state.

At our practice, you’ll be in expert hands with Dr. Jacqueline Simons, a highly experienced orthodontist with over 30 years of expertise. With her depth of knowledge and skill, you can trust that you’re receiving the highest level of orthodontic care and guidance.

Advantages of Orthodontic Treatment What Are the Advantages of
Orthodontic Treatment?

At Brooklyn Invisalign Centre, most people seek orthodontic care to achieve a more attractive, confident smile. While this is a major benefit, orthodontic treatment goes beyond aesthetics—it plays a crucial role in maintaining long-term oral health and overall well-being.

The Oral Health Benefits of Invisalign & Orthodontic Treatment

  • Improved Bite & Comfort:A well-aligned bite allows you to chew efficiently and comfortably, reducing strain on your teeth and muscles.
  • Jaw Joint Protection: Proper alignment prevents excessive stress on the jaw joints (TMJ), reducing the risk of discomfort and long-term issues.
  • Prevention of Wear & Tear:A balanced bite distributes pressure evenly, preventing excessive wear on certain teeth and helping maintain their strength.
  • Easier Oral Hygiene & Disease Prevention:Straight teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of cavities and gum disease by eliminating hard-to-reach areas where plaque can accumulate.

Investing in orthodontic treatment is about more than just straightening your teeth—it’s about enhancing your smile, improving function, and protecting your oral health for years to come.

Orthodontist for Child

OrthodontistShould My Child See an Orthodontist If They Still Have Baby Teeth?

Absolutely! Early orthodontic evaluations can be extremely beneficial in guiding your child’s dental development. Our orthodontist, Dr. Jacqueline Simons, welcomes children and can conduct evaluations as early as age six or seven At this stage, she can assess how their teeth and jaws are developing and determine if early intervention is needed.

For over 25 years, Dr. Marianna Weiner has specialized in early orthodontic treatment for children, using functional appliances and palatal expanders to guide proper jaw and teeth growth. Early orthodontics can sometimes eliminate the need for extensive treatment later or become part one (Phase I) of a two-phase treatment plan.

The second phase is typically completed in the teenage years.

We ensure that every visit allows plenty of time for parents and children to ask questions. Dr. Simons takes a patient and friendly approach, explaining treatment plans in simple, easy-to-understand language to help both parents and kids feel informed and comfortable.

We also understand that some children may feel nervous about wearing expanders or appliances. Dr. Weiner is skilled at making them feel at ease, and with the support of both parents and children, the results can be truly phenomenal!

If you have any questions or want to schedule a consultation, we’d love to help your child achieve a healthy, beautiful smile.

Do Orthodontists Only Treat Children?

Orthodontic treatment isn’t just for kids! Our orthodontist provides expert care for patients of all ages, including children, teens, and adults.

While many teenagers request traditional metal braces, we also offer more discreet options, such as ceramic braces, clear braces, and removable aligners like Invisalign.

Invisalign has become increasingly popular among both kids and adults, especially since there’s no need for messy, uncomfortable impressions. Instead, we use state-of-the-art iTero scanning technology to create a precise 3D digital model of your teeth. This allows for better predictability, ensuring a more customized and efficient treatment plan.

Why Choose Invisalign Over Traditional Braces?

  • Virtually Invisible: Clear aligners are discreet, making them a popular choice for professionals, teens, and anyone who wants to straighten their teeth without noticeable metal brackets.
  • No Food Restrictions: Unlike braces, Invisalign aligners are removable, so you can enjoy all your favorite foods without worry.
  • More Comfortable: No wires or brackets mean less irritation to your gums and cheeks.
  • Easier Oral Hygiene: Since aligners are removable, brushing and flossing are much simpler compared to traditional braces.
  • Fewer Office Visits: Invisalign requires fewer adjustments, so you spend less time in the dental chair.
  • Faster Results: In many cases, Invisalign treatment can be completed in less time than traditional braces.
  • Advanced Digital Precision: Using iTero scanning, we can map out your treatment with incredible accuracy, ensuring a more predictable outcome.

Orthodontics is becoming increasingly popular among adults—even those well into retirement. It’s never too late to achieve a straighter, healthier smile. No matter your age, you deserve to feel confident about your teeth!

What to Expect During Your Orthodontic Consultation

OrthodontistWhat to Expect During Your Orthodontic Consultation

When you visit us for orthodontic treatment, we take the time to understand your concerns and goals, ensuring we provide a personalized treatment plan that meets your needs.

During your consultation, Dr. Weiner will perform a comprehensive oral examination to assess your bite and overall dental alignment. We will take digital dental X-rays, including a full-mouth series, cephalometric, panoramic, and an iTero scan, along with intraoral and extraoral photos. A panoramic X-ray provides a 360-degree view of your upper and lower jaws in a single 2D image, aiding in precise treatment planning.

Once the assessment is complete, Dr. Weiner will discuss her findings with you and outline potential treatment options, explaining how they can help you achieve your ideal smile.
